How does the probation period work in Germany?

The probation period is very standard in Germany, generally lasting six months. This trial period lets you and your employer ensure that it’s a good fit, giving both sides a chance to settle in before making things official. Within the probabtionary period either you or your employer can cancel the employment contract with two weeks notice. After the six months trial period, notice periods for termination of the contract change typically to three months. However you can negotiate different terms with your boss if you’d like.
