Getting your Anmeldung is an important first step that connects you to the rest of the German system, including tax IDs and official documents. Technically you will need to register within 14 days of moving in, however if you can’t find an appointment within that time, don’t sweat it. Sometimes its hard to get an appointment but they won’t penalize you for it.
