Once you have filed your tax return, it usually takes between two and six months for the local tax office to process it and send you your tax assessment (Steuerbescheid).

This paper will inform you whether your tax return was approved or changes were made. In case of a refund, the amount will be directly wired to your bank account, usually when the tax assessment is sent.
